Dining Out on Bengali Cuisine

Bhojohori Manna

The restaurant takes its name from a mystery cook who is a master in world cuisine. Headquartered in Ekdalia Road (near Gariahat) and with other units in Kolkata and Salt Lake, the restaurant has revived some lost culinary delights like Dak Bangla Mutton and Goalondo Steamer Curry.

Kewpie's

Tucked inside Elgin Lane (off Elgin Road), this restaurant was the first to popularize Bengali cuisine to out of city visitors. The quaint Anglo Indian recipes of old Calcutta and the delicious Hilsa fish (sans the bones) are its hallmarks. Not to forget the terracotta tableware.

6 Ballygunge Place

The name gives the address. The decor, the food and the general ambience will take you back to the zamindari days. Don't miss the prawn among other things.

Tero Parbon

Near Golpark/Gariahat end of Purna Das Road, this is a small restaurant, with a huge traditional palm leaf fan as its icon. The menu is varied but limited which makes choosing the food fairly easy. Frequented by local residents when they want home-cooked food outside home.

Oh! Calcutta

Situated in the Forum Shopping Mall on Elgin Road, Oh! Calcutta offers high class Bengali, Mughlai and Continental cuisine in a suave pseudo-colonial atmosphere that's a delightfully calm contrast to the brash modernity of the surrounding mall.
