The University of Glasgow dates from the middle of the fifteenth century, a time of critical change in Europe. Set up in 1451, 40 years after the creation of St Andrew's University, Scotland, modelled on the University of Bologna, University of Glasgow was, and has remained a University with the great European tradition. The University played its distinguished part in the Enlightenment and in fostering the research and inquiry, which prepared the ground for the Industrial Revolution in which the city of Glasgow was to play a world role. The University celebrated its 550th anniversary in 2001.
The University of Glasgow Business School is housed within purpose built facilities. The Business School draws upon the academic resources of four departments, namely: Accounting and Finance; Business and Management; Economic and Social History; and Economics, all of which, as does the University, pride themselves in their pursuit of research lead academic excellence.
