- Prof. Pratip Kar started his career as Lecturer in Physics at the prestigious St. Xaviers’ College, Kolkata in the year 1975.
- In 1976 he joined Bharat Overseas Bank in project finance and later moved to the Industrial Development Bank of India.
- In 1988 Prof. Kar joined Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and continued there for close to 20 year. He became the Executive Director of SEBI in the year 1992. During his tenure in SEBI he was deeply involved in setting up the regulatory structure for securities market in India and worked tirelessly for its development.
- Prof. Kar’s interest in teaching and research saw him joining Tata Management Training Centre (TMTC) as its Dean. At TMTC he was involved in designing and delivery of training programmes in the areas of finance, corporate governance etc.
- During this time he also worked with Stern Business School, Harvard Business School and Ross School of Management of Michigan University in delivering programmes on leadership.
- In the year 2009 Prof. Kar joined IFC Global Corporate Governance Forum, and the World Bank as a consultant.
- Prof. Kar was also appointed by the Government of India as a member of the National Advisory Committee on Accounting Standards. He was also a member of first and second Committee on Corporate Governance formed by SEBI.
